Living at Greyfriars Court
Community
For new Owners, an easy introduction to the Greyfriars community is to join other Owners for coffee at 11.00 a.m or tea at 4.00 p.m, served every day in the lounge, or outside on the terrace if the weather is warm. Newcomers can always ask an Owner on the Board of Directors (see ‘How the Court works’) to introduce them to others, or for help and advice.
Greyfriars Court also organises social events throughout the year, to which all Owners are invited. These include quiz evenings, Halloween and Burns Night suppers, and summer garden parties. Occasional illustrated talks are scheduled, either with outside speakers or Owners with special interests, as well as musical evenings, both with professional musicians and local groups, including the highly talented Brighton Youth Orchestra. Visits are also arranged, e.g for Christmas shopping and the Agricultural Show. Attendance at any of these is, of course, entirely optional.
In addition, there are several weekly groups including Art, Scrabble, a film evening and a popular Extend exercise class There is also an exercise bicycle for Owners’ use in the meeting room.
The walled garden and grounds are maintained by contractors but there is an active Garden Committee, who welcome the help of any Owner interested in the upkeep of plants.
